Tools and Material are my recommendations! I got lucky and didn’t have to go buy the wood, but it’s pretty inexpensive even if you do. I learned you can’t use caulking to fill seams… it does NOT sand. I’m not proud of that one. Be mindful when you caulk the vertical boards, and make sure you wipe extra off immediately! I had to peel some off because I got sloppy! I love my new wall, and I’m so happy to share it with you all!

Step 1

Step 1

I marked the lines for my top and bottom boards using a pencil so once cut I knew exactly where I was nailing them. I marked where I would need to cut them to fit.

I then measured from the pencil line for my top board to the top pencil line on my bottom board for my vertical boards. Measured out on my vertical boards, marked for cutting, and then cut all my boards.

Step 2

Step 1

Now with all my boards cut, it’s time to nail them up! I used the nail gun to put the bottom board, vertical boards, and last my top board.

Once all boards are up I used wood filler to fill in where any nails are, and to cover any seams. After that I caulked around all insides of the boards to make it look more seamless.

Next I sanded everywhere lightly to make sure all filler was smooth. Once everything is sanded I wiped the whole wall and boards down to make sure everything was dust free.

Now time for paint! I didn’t paint the wall first, I figured it would be just as simple to paint it all at once. I’m glad I did this, because it has taken a couple of coats either way. I put about 3 coats on it, since I splattered the light all over it trying to close the paint can 😩.

Finished, and I absolutely love it! 💋

If you’ve done something like this I’d love to see and hear about it!

I measured out how long the wall was, and divided it into how many sections I wanted. Once you place your vertical lines it’s pretty easy to place the tape where you want for your pattern. After I had one row done, I measured vertically from the bottom point to the top point of that row, and kept going. i measured the other rows and made marks so I had place marks for where to put my tape. I painted with Emerging Taupe by Sherwin Williams for the chevron pattern, and Realist Beige for the background of the wall.

This definitely took some time to do, but I love it!
